Jack Smith thought he was going to be able to quietly fade away.
But he made one big mistake as Special Counsel.
And a Fox News star blew the whistle on this secret deal that Jack Smith cut with Democrats.
Jack Smith received $140,000 in free legal services from Democrat law firm
Special Counsel Jack Smith didn’t receive a pardon from former President Joe Biden for his witch hunt against President Donald Trump.
A financial disclosure form that Smith filed on January 10 before he resigned as Special Counsel revealed that he received $140,000 in free legal services from a Washington, D.C. law firm with deep ties to the Democrat Party.
Covington & Burling gave Smith some pricey legal advice on the house on his way out the door.
The law firm counts former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder and other Obama Justice Department officials as its employees.
Biden’s Justice Department signed off on the pro bono legal help for Smith.
Neither Smith nor Covington & Burling would comment on what the free legal services were for.
Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett argued that Smith’s “cozy arrangement” with the Democrat law firm should be investigated by Attorney General Pam Bondi during an appearance on Fox Business.
Host Elizabeth McDonald asked if he expected any probe into Smith’s free legal help.
“Yeah, I mean, just taking this gift, for example, from a firm aligned with Democrats only fortifies the evidence of political bias and maybe corruption that drove the lawfare campaign against Trump,” Jarrett explained. “This cozy arrangement, I think, demands further disclosure, more investigation.”
Trump’s Justice Department should investigate Smith over his secret deal
Jarrett said that the $140,000 in free legal help raised serious questions about Smith.
“Was it related to the two prosecutions he brought against Trump?” Jarrett wondered. “Did Garland know about it? The ethics are highly questionable whether it was sanctioned or not. It’s exactly why I argued in a column on Fox News that Jack Smith should be investigated by the incoming DOJ.”
Bondi created a Weaponization Working Group at the Justice Department to investigate the lawfare against Trump.
“In fact, Pam Bondi has now launched that probe,” Jarrett stated. “If lawfare prosecutors like Smith manipulated the law to damage Trump’s political campaign, that is a criminal violation of his civil rights under the federal codes. Prosecutors could be prosecuted.”
The Office of Government Ethics allows for free legal services for a Justice Department attorney to be approved if they’re related to “the employee’s past or current official position.”
Bondi said that the working group would investigate Smith’s actions as Special Counsel.
“Weaponization by Special Counsel Jack Smith and his staff who spent more than $50 million targeting President Trump, and the prosecutors and law enforcement personnel who participated in the unprecedented raid on President Trump’s home,” Bondi said about the working group’s mission.
Jack Smith likely began preparing for a potential day of reckoning over his witch hunt against Donald Trump before he quit as Special Counsel.
