Donald Trump’s big win is having ripple effects across the country.
That includes Big Tech.
And Jeff Bezos is throwing in the towel on one “woke” failure.
Amazon scraps DEI
For years, Big Tech companies were more than eager to do the bidding of Democrats and the Washington, D.C. Swamp.
They censored conservatives, and manipulated their digital products to amplify left-wing voices and policies.
But there has been a sea change.
The backlash to “wokeness” is here.
Not only did Donald Trump win the Electoral College, but he also won the popular vote, something no Republican Presidential candidate had done in 2004.
And as everyday people have gotten sick of the excesses of “wokeness,” so, too, have corporations.
Many companies have scrapped their diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) initiatives after they have proven to be wildly unpopular disasters.
Amazon is the latest company to move away from its DEI nonsense.
Bloomberg obtained a memo sent from Amazon senior human resources executive Candi Castleberry that revealed the company was “winding down outdated programs and materials.”
Castleberry’s title was changed from vice president of global DEI to vice president of Inclusive eXperiences and Technology, which suggests the “outdated programs” are related to DEI.
DEI does not work
Castleberry also expressed in the memo, “Rather than have individual groups build programs, we are focusing on programs with proven outcomes — and we also aim to foster a more truly inclusive culture.”
Talking about “proven outcomes” is a direct shot at DEI because they have proven to be ineffective and actually divisive.
A separate memo obtained by Fox Business revealed that Amazon was “evaluat[ing] their effectiveness” as DEI is quickly falling out of favor.
Castleberry’s memo added, “We worked to unify employee groups together under one umbrella, and build programs that are open to all . . . Rather than have individual groups build programs, we are focusing on programs with proven outcomes – and we also aim to foster a more truly inclusive culture.”
Amazon also reportedly eliminated webpages titled “Equity for Black people” and “LGBTQ+ rights” from its “Our Positions” section on the website.
Amazon’s shift comes as Big Tech titans have spoken with the incoming Trump administration.
They are likely hoping to have a less cantankerous relationship with Trump.
Recently, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that he was changing his company’s content moderation policies.
He said, “The recent elections also feel like a cultural tipping point towards, once again, prioritizing speech. So, we’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies, and restoring free expression on our platforms. More specifically, here’s what we’re going to do.”
The Censorship Industrial Complex went berserk when Zuckerberg made that announcement.
He added, “We used to have filters that scanned for any policy violation. Now, we’re going to focus those filters on tackling illegal and high-severity violations, and for lower-severity violations, we’re going to rely on someone reporting an issue before we take action. The problem is that the filters make mistakes, and they take down a lot of content that they shouldn’t. So, by dialing them back, we’re going to dramatically reduce the amount of censorship on our platforms. We’re also going to tune our content filters to require much higher confidence before taking down content. The reality is that this is a trade-off. It means we’re going to catch less bad stuff, but we’ll also reduce the number of innocent people’s posts and accounts that we accidentally take down.”
It seems like all of the Big Tech companies are going to have fewer and fewer of these “mistakes.”
