The comedy world has come under assault.
People have largely resisted the “cancel culture” tactics deployed against comedians.
But a “woke” comedian issued one threat to Dave Chappelle.
“Woke” comedian goes after Chappelle in her standup special
One of the hallmarks of totalitarian societies is the death of comedy.
When jokes become outlawed, that is a tell-tale sign that authoritarians are on the march.
And legendary comedian Dave Chappelle is one of many comedians who have been attacked by the “woke” mob for telling jokes.
In the case of Chappelle, he told jokes about transgender people that made the Left go ballistic.
The Left only believes in “punching up” with humor, meaning that the only truly “safe” jokes are those aimed at straight, white, Christian males.
Any other target of a joke could come with consequences.
Leftist comedian Michelle Buteau recently released her second Netflix special, and she took a shot at Chappelle.
Comedy is “dangerous”
Buteau said during her set, “What I’m saying is it can be done. It can be done. We can tell jokes and stories and not disparage a whole community. . .We can do that, we can make it funny. You just have to work at it, right? So if you guys ever run into Dave Chappelle, can you let him know that s***?”
She continued, “And he is the GOAT, if that means ‘going off about trans’ people. Dave, it’s not funny. It’s dangerous. . .I can’t believe somebody would make millions and millions of dollars for making people feel unsafe. That is so wild to me.”
This is radical Left in a nutshell.
They deem their political opponents’ speech “dangerous” in an attempt to normalize censorship.
These techniques have been very effective over the past few years.
For instance, comedy clubs have been bullied into de-platforming comedians who tell “offensive” jokes.
Chappelle, despite his stature in Hollywood, struggled mightily to find a distributor for a documentary he produced amid the transgender “scandal.”
Buteau added that she wanted “to make millions and millions of dollars for making people feel safe, seen, secure, heard, and entertained.”
Despite protests from the Left, Netflix stood by Chappelle.
A Netflix employee attempted to organize a boycott of Chappelle and get his specials taken down from the platform, but it failed.
However, the Left would gladly censor Chappelle if they had enough political power to do so.
After initial accusations of being “transphobic,” Chappelle doubled down and told more “trans” jokes in his special The Closer.
Chappelle’s whole point was that the more people tell him to stop joking about something, the more he’s going to joke about it.
CNN attempted to drum up interest for Buteau’s special, but little has materialized.
The outlet reported, “‘A Buteau-ful Mind’ was released on New Year’s Eve and is Buteau’s second Netflix comedy special following her 2020 debut ‘Welcome to Buteaupia.’ The performance marked the first time a female comic has recorded a special at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.
In a healthy society, nothing is off limits in comedy.
Audiences can decide what they like and don’t like.
