Hollywood launches shocking attack on beloved Christian classic
Reports emerged in early April that Netflix and director Greta Gerwig are eyeing liberal actress Meryl Streep to play Aslan in their upcoming adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia.”
This casting choice has ignited a firestorm among conservatives and Christians because Aslan isn’t just any character – he’s literally the Jesus figure in Lewis’ beloved Christian allegory.
Entertainment news sites Nexus Point and Deadline both reported the shocking development, with Deadline breaking the story on April 3 that Streep is “in talks” for the role.
The backlash was immediate and fierce. Conservative commentators and ordinary Christians alike expressed outrage at what many see as a deliberate attack on their faith.
“They just have to ruin everything good, don’t they[?]” wrote a freelance editor for the conservative satire site Babylon Bee on the day the news broke.
C.S. Lewis’s Christian legacy under assault
C.S. Lewis, the renowned Christian author, deliberately created Aslan as a male lion to represent Jesus Christ.
This was no subtle symbolism – Lewis himself explicitly stated Aslan was an allegorical representation of Jesus.

The upcoming Netflix adaptation will reportedly focus on “The Magician’s Nephew,” the prequel to Lewis’s famous series. The film is scheduled for release on Thanksgiving Day 2026, according to Variety.
For Christians, the gender-swapping of a Jesus figure isn’t just another Hollywood “woke” moment – it’s a direct attack on core Christian beliefs and symbols.
“I’m not going to say ‘I told you so’ about this potential Netflix abomination,” said a writer for Not The Bee, in an article responding to the news. “But I think we’re getting really, really close to ‘I told you so’ territory.”

Hollywood’s pattern of Christian disrespect
This isn’t the first time Hollywood has taken beloved franchises and drastically altered them to fit progressive ideologies.
A Breitbart writer didn’t mince words, calling the potential Streep casting “Netflix’s ‘fuck you’ to Christians” in a scathing article.
The writer went on to compare this to other franchises that have been reimagined with progressive ideologies, including Disney’s “Star Wars” and Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings” adaptations.
“Here we go again, right?” the Breitbart article stated. “A beloved franchise handed over to a chick (Gerwig) who hates the source material and especially hates those who love the source material, so she can’t wait to spit in our faces by turning the sacred into the profane.”
The previous Narnia film series produced by Walden Media between 2005-2010 featured Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan – a casting choice that respected Lewis’s original vision and the faith of millions of Christians who cherish these stories.
Big budget attack on Christian values
Netflix and Gerwig are reportedly pouring hundreds of millions into this production, with the Breitbart writer suggesting they’re “We hate you so much we’re spending $300 million on this fuck you.” to Christians.
Many commentators are drawing connections between this news and Gerwig’s controversial “Barbie” movie, which was criticized by conservatives for its feminist messaging.
“You might wonder why a Greta Gerwig would spend two years of her life bringing something to life she has no respect for,” the Breitbart writer pondered. “Easy, it’s a chance for her to spend millions antagonizing us Christiantards. We see this all the time.”
As streaming services compete for subscribers, Netflix seems to have calculated that appealing to progressive values matters more than respecting the beliefs of millions of Christians.
