Democrats have lost the plot on illegal immigration.

The party isn’t happy about border security being restored.

And Donald Trump was speechless when a top Democrat said three words about the Border Patrol.

House Democrat compares border security bill to the Fugitive Slave Act

Former Vice President Kamala Harris went down in flames to defeat in large part because of her support for open borders.

The 2024 Election was a wake-up call for Democrats that they were out of step with the rest of the country on illegal immigration.

Democrats are trying to debate how the party moves forward during President Donald Trump’s second term.

A few realize they need to moderate their language on illegal immigration in public.

Representative Janelle Bynum (D-OR) isn’t one of them.

She compared a bill protecting Border Patrol agents to the Fugitive Slave Act on the House floor.

House Republicans passed the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act by a vote of 264 to 155 with some 40 Democrats crossing over to vote for it.

The bill would create minimum prison sentences for illegal aliens who engage in high-speed chases with law enforcement and add enhanced penalties if law enforcement is injured or killed in a chase.

Illegal aliens convicted under the law would be subject to deportation.

The bill was named after Border Patrol agent Raul Gonzalez who was killed in a high-speed chase in Texas with an illegal alien in 2022.

Punishing illegal aliens who flee from law enforcement and put them in danger would seem to be common sense.

But not to Bynum.

Democrats have learned nothing from the 2024 Election

The Fugitive Slave Act required the return of runaway slaves to their owners.

“I urge my colleagues to oppose H.R. 35, let’s call this bill what it is, fear mongering dressed up as officer safety,” Bynum ranted. “This bill echoes one of the darkest chapters in our nation’s history, the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.”

Bynum claimed that chasing down a fleeing illegal alien was similar to hunting down a runaway slave.

“Just like that shameful law, H.R. 35 forces authorities and encourages the deputizing of randos to do the federal government’s work, punishing them if they refuse,” Bynum raved. “Back then it was hunting down people who dared to seek freedom, today it’s forcing local police to become federal enforcers.”

Bynum has learned no lessons about illegal immigration from the 2024 Election or the utter failure of fearmongering.

A Cato study found that 58 Border Patrol agents were killed in the line of duty between 2003 and 2023.

Car crashes were the second leading cause of death for them.

National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Ben Petersen called Bynum’s tirade proof she is “hellbent on pursuing a dangerous anti-police officer crusade in Congress.”

“Janelle Bynum’s unglued comments reinforced [that] she’s hellbent on pursuing a dangerous anti-police officer crusade in Congress. Bynum’s extremist vote siding with cartel terrorists over Border Patrol puts Oregonians in danger,” Petersen added.

Many Democrats care more about illegal aliens than they do law enforcement.
