The mainstream media has been on a relentless mission to discredit Trump’s decisive actions on trade.
President Donald Trump wasn’t having any of it during their recent interview with NBC host Kristen Welker and he really left her scrambling when she attempted one attack on his policies.
And President Trump reminded NBC’s Kristen Welker about one stunning endorsement he received that leftists can’t stand.
During a Meet the Press interview that aired Sunday, Welker tried to corner President Trump about his tariffs on China by highlighting potential impacts on small businesses.
But Trump immediately turned the tables on the NBC host, calling out her selective framing of the issue.
“You pick a couple of little businesses. What about the car business?” Trump fired back at Welker. “They’re going to make a fortune because of the tariffs.”
Trump then delivered a bombshell reminder about the stunning praise he received from an unexpected source — United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain.
“Did you know the head of the union, who was no fan of mine, Fain, Shawn Fain I guess his name is right? He didn’t endorse me, the Teamsters did, a lot of people did, a lot of unions did, but he didn’t. He couldn’t stand me,” Trump pointed out.
This is significant because Fain viciously attacked Trump during the presidential campaign, even calling him a “scab” at the Democratic National Convention while endorsing Kamala Harris.
But now – at least for the time being – Fain is whistling a different tune.
Trump continued, “Now he’s saying, ‘Wow, what Trump’s done for the automobile… I can’t believe it.’ I assume he’s probably going to say the next thing he can say which is, ‘I endorse this guy, he’s the greatest I’ve ever seen.'”
The President didn’t hold back in highlighting Fain’s stunning admission.
“He said, ‘We’ve been waiting 40 years for somebody to do what Trump is doing.’ So why don’t you mention the big car industry instead of somebody that’s doing strollers?” Trump challenged Welker.
While the establishment media tries to downplay it, Fain has indeed been remarkably supportive of Trump’s tariff policies on imported vehicles and parts.
In March, Trump imposed a 25% tariff covering imported cars, SUVs, crossovers, minivans and light trucks, in addition to parts including engines and transmissions, citing “national security concerns.”
Fain responded with shocking enthusiasm on March 27, declaring in a video posted to social media: “We are ecstatic to see an administration finally address the unfair trade laws in this country. These laws have destroyed the American working class. They’ve destroyed communities in this country, in virtually every state, for decades.”
The UAW president’s praise is a jaw-dropping reversal from his campaign trail attacks on Trump.
Fain even engaged in an 11-minute heated exchange with MSNBC hosts Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders-Townsend, and Michael Steele on April 4, defending Trump’s tariffs as vital for bringing manufacturing back to the United States.
This political about-face underscores a larger truth about Trump’s presidency — while union leadership backed Harris, many rank-and-file union members supported Trump, helping him secure the critical battleground state of Michigan in the 2024 election.
The Biden-Harris administration talked endlessly about protecting American workers, but Trump is actually delivering results that even his harshest critics can’t deny.
