Joe Biden’s Presidency inflicted massive damage on the Democrat Party.
He had left them with one nasty surprise.
And Donald Trump just discovered the costly mistake Joe Biden made that will come back to bite Democrats.
Trump’s impeachment lawyer revealed costly Joe Biden mistake
President Donald Trump delivered on his promise by pardoning nearly 1,500 and commuting the sentences of 14 more January 6 protestors.
Democrats and their media allies were outraged at the blanket pardons that Trump handed out.
George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley – who served as Trump’s lawyer for the first impeachment hoax – told the Left they should direct their ire at former President Joe Biden’s Justice Department during an appearance on Fox News.
He argued that the abuse of power by the Biden Justice Department made the January 6 pardons the only just thing to do.
“The Department of Justice really made the case for these pardons, and it was hard to do because most of us supported the people responsible for the riot being held accountable,” Turley said. “It was a terrible day.”
Biden Justice Department’s abuse of power set the stage for January 6 pardons
The FBI made January 6 the biggest investigation in the bureau’s history and the Biden Justice Department dropped the hammer on people accused of nonviolent crimes.
“But the Justice Department unleashed what one of its top lawyers called a shock and awe campaign and they just scooped up hundreds of people,” Turley explained. “They often demanded really excessive sentences in my view. Most of these people were charged with just trespass or unlawful entry. Most of them were not violent. The government tended to oppose bail.”
Trump and some January 6 protesters were charged with obstructing an official proceeding under the 2002 Sarbanes Oxley Act.
The law was meant to cover the destruction of documents after the Enron scandal but Democrat prosecutors warped its definition to use the charge to add more jail time sentences.
A Supreme Court ruling last year threw out obstructing official proceeding charges for stretching the law beyond its intent.
The law was weaponized against January 6 defendants
Turley pointed out that January 6 defendants received excessively harsh treatment and punishments by the Biden Justice Department.
“They kept a number of them for a very long time in segregation. In some cases, they demanded limitations on what people could say or read or associate after they were released. All of this tended to undermine their case,” Turley stated. “And so when the President campaigned on this issue, I think a lot of people wanted to see this chapter closed. And he certainly did that. I mean, this was broader than most people expected or even asked for.”
A Washington D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals panel found last March that some January 6 defendants were hit with excessively long sentences.
U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) spoke out against the long solitary confinement used against January 6 prisoners in the Washington, D.C. jail.
Donald Trump closed the book on one of the most alarming abuses of power in American history.
