The appointment of attorney Harmeet Dhillon to serve as the head of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division by President-elect Donald Trump has been overlooked.
But she has one of the most important positions in the incoming Trump administration.
The Civil Rights Division is tasked with enforcing civil rights law.
UC Berkeley Law School Dean Erwin Chemerinsky fretted about how Dhillon would reimagine the role of leading the division.
“Harmeet Dhillon is very conservative and hardly a champion of civil rights as it is generally understood,” Chemerinsky told the Los Angeles Times. “She was very active in challenging COVID restrictions. She has filed suits when conservatives claim their speech was restricted. She has challenged protection of transgender students. But there is nothing in her record about fighting discrimination based on race or sex or sexual orientation or gender identity.”
Dhillon can use the office to protect the civil rights of Americans who are having them violated by rogue prosecutors like Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg or woke university officials.
Conservatives are excited about what she can accomplish at the Justice Department.
“There’s literally not another person in the United States of America better suited for this job,” Conservative pundit and attorney Kurt Schlichter told the Daily Caller. “She checks all the boxes twice.”
Dhillon, a California-based attorney, has sued her state and won over its overreach.
A sea change in the Justice Department’s mission
The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division under President Joe Biden was used to target conservatives.
Peaceful pro-Life protesters were targeted with supposed violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinics (FACE) and thrown in jail.
California pro-Life activist David Daleiden was a client of Dhillon’s after he was targeted by then-California Attorney General Kamala Harris for exposing Planned Parenthood for selling baby parts in a series of undercover videos.
“Harmeet is brilliant,” Daleiden said. “She is a master organizer who is efficient and effective. She is an excellent choice to accomplish President Trump’s mandate to stop the weaponization of law enforcement against the free speech rights of American citizens and protect the constitutional rights of all.”
Heritage Foundation legal fellow Sarah Parshall Perry said that Dhillon has a target-rich environment after she gets to the Justice Department.
She could tackle the weaponization of the FACE Act against pro-lifers, stop lawsuits against election integrity laws, and get the Department of Homeland Security to share the citizenship status of voters with states.
“Dhillon should also direct the DOJ’s education section to step up and target universities that are continuing to racially discriminate in their admissions process in violation of the Supreme Court’s decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard,” Perry said about the Supreme Court decision banning race-based affirmative action in college admissions.
Donald Trump has a conservative attorney who can end the weaponization of the Justice Department and return it to justice being blind.
