Donald Trump is returning to Washington, D.C. next year with a long wish list for his agenda.
He’s going to have to work with Republicans in Congress to make it happen.
And Donald Trump got a scary warning from the establishment about this power struggle threatening his administration.
Establishment Republicans fight to replace Mitch McConnell
RINO Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced earlier this year that he was stepping down from his role as Republican Senate leader after the election.
The 82-year-old served 17 years leading Senate Republicans to become the longest-serving party leader in Senate history.
McConnell ruled the Senate Republicans with an iron fist and shut conservatives out of the legislative process.
He ensured that every spending bill that funded all of the Democrats’ political priorities passed the Senate.
Conservatives hoped to field a challenger in the leadership race but the battle to replace McConnell is coming down to two establishment figures.
Republican Whip John Thune (R-SD) and U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) are the two RINOs vying to become the next Republican Senate leader.
U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) is running with the support of some conservatives but is a longshot in the race.
Cornyn supports mass amnesty for illegal aliens and was the architect of the biggest gun control bill since former President Bill Clinton’s so-called assault weapons ban in 1994.
The 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act allowed the Justice Department to set up a red flag gun confiscation command center and support state red flag efforts.
“More than any other senator, Cornyn is responsible for shepherding the landmark legislation through a chamber,” the Texas Tribune reported.
Trump warned to stay away from the Senate leadership race
Former President Donald Trump hasn’t endorsed anyone in the Senate Republican leadership fight but both Thune and Cornyn have reportedly met with him at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
Trump weighing in on the leadership battle could prove decisive so he’s being warned to stay away from it.
U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) told Trump that “it really isn’t in his best interest to get involved in the race, because no matter who the winner is, he’s got to work with them.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he stays out of it completely, and that would be my preference,” Mullin told Semafor. “But he is his own man.”
Mullin is backing Thune and predicted the that South Dakota lawmaker would win the race.
But he admitted it might take several rounds of voting.
Thune is a RINO who turned on Trump over January 6.
The pair had been feuding but Thune has worked to repair his relationship with Trump ahead of running for Senate GOP leader.
“There is a reason Mullin is begging Trump not to get involved,” a Republican source told Semafor.
Mullin suggest that there’s one of the three contenders that he doesn’t want to see win.
“There’s two people in the race that he’s OK with winning, and there’s one that he’s absolutely not,” Mullin said. “And I’m not going to get into who that is.”
Whoever wins the Senate Republican leadership race will have a great deal of power on shaping what Trump’s agenda looks like.
