Democrats are ramping up their resistance against Donald Trump.
But they’re misplaying their cards.
And Democrats fell into one trap fighting Donald Trump that is going to blow up in their faces.
Ranting and raving about Donald Trump is losing argument
Democrats were trying to figure out a message for opposing President Donald Trump in his second term.
They’ve gone back to the same playbook they’ve used for the past nine years with fearmongering and angry ranting.
Democrats have accused Trump of causing planes to fall out of the sky because some nonessential pencil pushers at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were laid off.
Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) and other elected Democrats have gone on unhinged tirades during protests against Trump.
It’s looking like a replay of his first term.
Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza warned that Democrats ranting and raving about Trump wouldn’t help them politically during an appearance on NewsNation’s On Balance.
He argued that Democrats’ hatred of Trump is causing them to make a miscalculation.
“They just have a blind spot with Trump. No idea he proposes can even be a good idea,” Cillizza said. “Again, if it was proposed by James P. Public, Republican President, they’d be like, ‘Okay, well, maybe.’ But because it is him, and because the loathing is so — I use that word advisedly — but they hate him, every idea is a bad idea.”
Eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government is an extremely popular idea that was championed by former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton because they knew it was a political winner.
Trump tasked SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to audit the federal government with his team at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Democrats put themselves in the position of defending government waste after they began attacking Musk.
Democrats fighting the wrong battle
Cillizza admitted that Democrats are making some bad strategy choices.
“And I just think it leads to some poor strategic conclusions if your goal is — as Democrats’ goal should be — getting some power back, because they’re out of power at every single level at the state and federal government,” Cillizza explained.
Democrats and their media allies dialed up the fearmongering over Trump to 10 during the 2024 Election.
Trump had the biggest victory for a Republican Presidential candidate since the 1980s despite getting constantly attacked by Democrats and the legacy media.
NewsNation host Chris Cuomo made a similar argument to Cillizza’s.
He argued that attacks on Trump and Musk over DOGE proved that Democrats didn’t learn their lesson from the 2024 Election.
“It seems like anything that Trump or Musk does, they have to condemn, and they have to condemn it on the basis of the people personally. Trump is a Nazi. Musk has apartheid roots … They’re just defending the establishment,” Cuomo stated. “And I don’t think that’s where you want to be right now. You want to be in the business of better, and they seem like they’re still in the business of painting the other side as worse.”
The public is tuning out the same tired attacks against Donald Trump after hearing the same thing for nearly a decade.
