Caitlin Clark was recently named Time Athlete of the Year.

It was an obvious choice after Clark made the WNBA relevant for the first time in perhaps the entire 27-year existence of the league.

But Caitlin Clark fans were heart-broken when they heard this awful news.

Sports star pandered to the “woke” and got this stunning reaction

Caitlin Clark is learning the hard way that bending the knee to the Left is never a good idea.

They will always want more.

Basketball sensation Caitlin Clark went straight from leading the Iowa Hawkeyes to back-to-back NCAA championship game appearances to leading the Indiana Fever to the franchise’s first WNBA playoff appearance in eight seasons as a rookie.

However, Clark’s Time interview after she was recently named Time Athlete of the Year has sparked controversy.

Throughout the season, Clark largely avoided divisive political topics.

She endorsed a Taylor Swift Instagram post that encouraged people to vote in the Presidential election, but did not explicitly endorse either candidate.

But in the interview, she accepted the Left’s premise of “white privilege.”

Caitlin Clark parrots left-wing talking points

Clark said, “I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a white person, there is privilege . . . A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players. This league has kind of been built on them. The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important. I have to continue to try to change that. The more we can elevate Black women, that’s going to be a beautiful thing.”

Clark’s response triggered some backlash from political commentators on the Right.

But the more telling reaction came from Washington Mystics owner Sheila Johnson, the ex-wife of billionaire entrepreneur Robert L. Johnson, with whom she founded the entertainment network Black Entertainment Television (BET).

While her ex-husband seemingly became a Trump supporter in recent years and actually gave credit where it was due for “positive things” Trump did economically, his Mystics-owner ex-wife is taking an opposite tack when it comes to Clark.

Owner goes after league’s cash cow

She told CNN, “It has taken the WNBA almost 28 years to get to the point where we are now. And this year, something clicked with the WNBA. And it’s because of the draft of the players that came in. It’s just not Caitlin Clark, it’s [Angel] Reese.”

Many on the Left have twisted themselves in knots to diminish Clark’s role in the burgeoning success of the WNBA.

But numbers don’t lie.

Television ratings and game attendance were far higher when Clark attended.

Johnson continued, “Well, I want to be very diplomatic about this. It’s just the structure of the way media plays out race. I’m going to be very honest. I feel really bad because I’ve seen so many players of color that are equally as talented. And they never got the recognition that they should have. And I think right now, it is time for that to happen. So last night we read Time magazine where Caitlin Clark was named Athlete of the Year. Why couldn’t they have put the whole WNBA on that cover and said the WNBA is the League of the Year because of all the talent that we have?”

Clark’s reward for pandering to the left-wing narrative was a slap in the face.

It will never be enough.
