Denver Mayor vows to use the police to illegal aliens from being deported
Democrats are planning on sparring with the incoming Trump administration next year to build their political profiles to run for higher office.
President-elect Donald Trump is planning on carrying out the largest mass deportation of illegal aliens in American history.
Democrat Governors and Mayors are already lining up to fight the Trump administration over this plan.
But Denver Mayor Mike Johnston (D) took this to another level when he vowed to create a Tiananmen Square moment by standing against federal authorities trying to deport illegal aliens.
He told Denverite that he would use the police to stop illegal aliens from being deported in his city.
“More than us having DPD stationed at the county line to keep them out, you would have 50,000 Denverites there,” Johnston said. “It’s like the Tiananmen Square moment with the rose and the gun, right?”
Johnston falsely claimed that state and city law prevents Denver from complying with the federal government on deporting illegal aliens.
He is an attorney by training and knows that federal law trumps state and local.
The Denver Mayor said in another interview that he’s willing to go to jail to stop illegal aliens from being deported.
Johnston has been trying to climb the political ladder for years in Colorado without success.
He finished a distant third in the 2018 Democrat Primary for Governor.
Johnston dropped out of the 2020 Colorado Democrat Senate Primary before a vote was cast when it was clear his campaign was going nowhere.
Now, he’s trying to get some headlines in the media so he can run for Colorado Governor in 2026.
This fight could finally be his long-awaited ticket to higher office.
Rand Paul suggests that the Denver Mayor could be arrested
U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) warned that Johnston could be removed from office and arrested if he tries to block the federal government from deporting illegal aliens in Denver on CBS’ Face the Nation.
“Now, I would say that the mayor of Denver, if he’s going to resist federal law, which there’s a long standing, standing history of the supremacy of federal law, he’s going to resist that. It will go all the way to the Supreme Court. And I would suspect that he would be removed from office,” Paul explained. “I don’t know whether or not that would be a criminal prosecution for someone resisting federal law. But he will lose.”
Paul pointed out that this was an actual insurrection against the federal government.
“And people need to realize that what he is offering is a form of insurrection where the states resist the federal government. Most people objected to that and rejected that long ago,” Paul said. “So I think the mayor of Denver is on the wrong side of history and really, I think will face legal ramifications if he doesn’t obey the federal law.”
Trump’s “Border Czar” Tom Homan said that he was willing to have Johnston thrown in jail for violating federal law by harboring illegal aliens.
