Donald Trump is on everyone’s mind.
He pulled off one of the greatest political comebacks to become President-elect.
And a legendary Hollywood director used two shocking words to describe Trump.
Ridley Scott on Trump
Donald Trump is at the center of the political universe.
And his influence has seeped into the broader culture.
Almost everyone has an opinion about Trump, good or bad.
Oscar-nominated director Ridley Scott chimed in with a take on Trump that many did not expect.
He called Trump a “clever gangster” while comparing him to Denzel Washington’s character in the recently released Gladiator II, the sequel to the 2000 Best Picture winner Gladiator.
Scott told The Hollywood Reporter, “[Macrinus] was a prisoner of war — probably at a North African state — and actually was taken to Rome probably as a gladiator. Survived. Got free. Got into the business of maybe making wine and bread. He evolved into a very rich merchant selling s*** to the Roman armies—food, oil, wine, cloth, weapons, everything. He maybe had a million men spread around Europe. So he was a billionaire at the time, so why wouldn’t he [have ambitions toward the throne]? ‘Why not me?’ He’s also a gangster — very close to Trump. A clever gangster. He creates chaos and from chaos he can evolve.”
It’s amusing to see people ascribe these characteristics to Trump, but not politicians as a whole.
They have this naïve belief that career politicians like Joe Biden, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) are pure-hearted civil servants.
Pelosi has gotten filthy rich trading stocks with insider information as well as her ability to manipulate legislation that’s good or bad for certain companies.
Washington in the twilight of his career
Washington said of his character, “He’s trying to use everybody. He’d use his mother, he’d use his own children; he’s already used up his soul, so he didn’t have any left. He’s in bed with the devil.”
Gladiator II is also notable because it will be one of the last of Washington’s career.
He recently announced that he is unlikely to accept any more roles after he’s finished with his current slate of contracted projects.
Washington revealed that two of those final projects could be part of The Equalizer franchise.
He told Esquire, “I told them I would do another Equalizer, and we’re doing four and five . . . More people are happy about that—people love those daggone Equalizers. . .But I’ve come to realize that the Equalizer films are for me, too, because they’re for the people. They want me to go get the bad guys. ‘We can’t get them, so you go get them.’ And I say, Okay, I’ll get them! Just wait right there. I’ll be right back!”
Ironically, that explains a lot of Trump’s appeal.
The American people were tired of the Washington, D.C., Swamp, so they elected Trump—twice—to drain it.
Trump famously said, “In the end, they’re not coming after me. They’re coming after you, and I’m just standing in their way.”
