Donald Trump’s decisive election victory has many in the federal government biting their nails.
These federal bureaucrats know that Donald Trump and his allies have plans to slim down the size and scope of the federal government, potentially saving taxpayers billions.
And now Rand Paul has just thrown the Deep State into a full-blown panic.
Top Senate Republican is set to take over this key role to the detriment of the Deep State
On Election Day, Donald Trump exceeded the expectations of most political pundits after sweeping all seven of the major swing states and even winning the popular vote.
Republicans also gained control of the Senate, flipping four seats, giving the GOP a total of 53 seats.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) is set to take over as chair of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which has already sent many bloated federal agencies into panic mode.
Paul has his eyes set on the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), which has come under fire for abusing its power allegedly helping Democrats seize political power in the 2020 election.
Critics of CISA, like Rand Paul, point to the agencies’ obsession with countering so-called “misinformation,” which many Americans view as blatant efforts to censor Americans online.
Last Thursday, Rand Paul spoke to Politico about his intentions for CISA, bluntly stating, “I’d like to eliminate it.”
“The First Amendment is pretty important, that’s why we listed it as the First Amendment, and I would have liked to, at the very least, eliminate their ability to censor content online,” the lawmaker from Kentucky added.
The Donald Trump administration established CISA in 2018, tasking it with fighting back against cyber security attacks.
However, as history has shown, giving more power to the federal government usually does not end well.
CISA quickly began to abuse its power, dumping massive funds into programs that allegedly targeted American internet users for allegedly spreading “misinformation,” especially as it pertains to the details of the 2020 election.
In his interview with Politico, Rand Paul said that he plans to hold hearings about CISA, telling the media outlet, “There needs to be more scrutiny, and we will have hearings where [CISA officials] will have to come in and defend the meetings that they were having with social media [companies].”
Although he admits that eliminating CISA is unlikely, he hopes to at the very least strip them of their censorship powers.
American taxpayers sent a powerful message to Washington, D.C. on Election Day
Exit polls show that concerns about American democracy ranked high on the list of concerns that drove voters to the polls this year.
However, polls showed that the majority of these voters concerned with democracy voted for Donald Trump, revealing that many voters have had enough with anti-democratic programs like CISA.
Rand Paul and his colleagues in the Senate owe it to taxpayers to address organizations like CISA, which wield immense power with little to no oversight.
