Twitter was wrong when they thought a big sex scandal would stay covered up

Elon Musk exposed the dark underbelly of Twitter.

The social media giant has too many problems to count.

And Twitter was wrong when they thought this big sex scandal would stay covered up.

Elon Musk’s Twitter deal is effectively over.

The stated reason was that he could not verify the number of fake accounts on the platform, meaning that he would not be able to monetize Twitter the way he wanted.

And it appears that Twitter itself was looking for ways to monetize the platform, which included pornography.

Twitter was contemplating a system similar to OnlyFans where users could monetize pornographic content, and Twitter would get a cut, of course.

So Twitter was allegedly looking to literally pimp users while shutting down conservative speech over such things as pointing out that cloth masks are useless against COVID.

That is the Left in a nutshell: any and all degeneracy is welcome so long as it does not challenge the establishment.

The Verge reported that “in the spring of 2022, Twitter considered making a radical change to the platform. After years of quietly allowing adult content on the service, the company would monetize it. The proposal: give adult content creators the ability to begin selling OnlyFans-style paid subscriptions, with Twitter keeping a share of the revenue. Had the project been approved, Twitter would have risked a massive backlash from advertisers, who generate the vast majority of the company’s revenues. But the service could have generated more than enough to compensate for losses. OnlyFans, the most popular by far of the adult creator sites, is projecting $2.5 billion in revenue this year — about half of Twitter’s 2021 revenue — and is already a profitable company.”

The high-minded leftists atop Twitter were strongly considering monetizing pornography.

Meanwhile being advertiser-friendly was supposedly part of their justification for censoring political, i.e. conservative, content.

The plans only fell apart because Twitter has been terrible at policing illegal content, such as child pornography and sex trafficking.

Internal reviewers at Twitter determined that “Twitter cannot accurately detect child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity at scale.”

The Verge added that “the company also lacked tools to verify that creators and consumers of adult content were of legal age, the team found. As a result, in May — weeks after Elon Musk agreed to purchase the company for $44 billion — the company delayed the project indefinitely. If Twitter couldn’t consistently remove child sexual exploitative content on the platform today, how would it even begin to monetize porn?”

It’s shocking and frustrating that Twitter has the time to collude with the FBI and police all kinds of conservative speech, yet the company cannot figure out how to stop child sex trafficking on the platform.

Worse yet, the only reason the porn monetization plan failed was because they’ve thrown up their hands at policing illegal content.

But at least there are no more mean tweets on the platform.
