Big Tech censorship has become dystopian.
The truth is not an affirmative defense against social media crackdowns.
Now Twitter is censoring something about COVID that will terrify you.
Warning signs were everywhere that Jack Dorsey’s successor as Twitter CEO would be even worse.
And clearly seems to be the case as censorship has already ramped up on the watch of new CEO Parag Agrawal.
Twitter is now censoring true information about COVID just because.
Stating that vaccinated people can spread COVID—which is objectively true—can be cause for a permanent ban from the platform.
“When tweets include misleading information about Covid-19, we may place a label on those tweets that includes corrective information about that claim,” the website notes in a section detailing its rules about Covid-19 misinformation. “We may apply labels to tweets that contain, for example… false or misleading claims that people who have received the vaccine can spread or shed the virus (or symptoms, or immunity) to unvaccinated people.”
Users can receive penalties up to a permanent ban.
The change was made on Dec. 2, according to Wayback Machine archives retrieved by Reclaim the Net. The policy contradicts the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, which notes the “risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection in fully vaccinated people cannot be completely eliminated as long as there is continued community transmission of the virus.”
This dovetails with a report that said Facebook was censoring true posts about vaccines because they didn’t want to foster vaccine hesitancy.
These are the works of authoritarian regimes.
The establishment narrative is the only approved narrative, and anything else must be silenced.
Twitter has several guidelines about COVID that are grounds for censoring including:
That vaccines approved by health agencies (such as Pfizer’s Comirnaty vaccine in the United States) did not actually receive full approval/authorization, and therefore that the vaccines are untested, “experimental” or somehow unsafe.
The vaccines and boosters are still under emergency use authorization, so there’s a gray area in terms of what constitutes “full approval.”
Nevertheless, people should be allowed to discuss the vaccine freely.
Unfortunately, Big Tech is moving away from freedom under the guise of battling “misinformation.”
That is the establishment’s Trojan horse to censor all dissent.
If people are questioning the approved narrative, they’re guilty of harmful “misinformation.”
