People are speculating that Mike Pence will run for president in 2024.
But he’s not the only popular Republican expected to run.
And these two Republicans are Mike Pence’s biggest threats for control of the GOP.
If the political climate is the same in three years, Donald Trump will have a good chance of winning the GOP nomination.
51% of voters say they would choose Trump in 2024, according to a poll by Tony Fabrizio, a former Trump campaign pollster.
This is much higher than any other candidate, including Pence.
But if Trump doesn’t run, then the Republicans highest in the poll will be Mike Pence, Ron DeSantis, and Ted Cruz.
According to POLITICO:
When Fabrizio combined the results with Trump voters’ second choices, DeSantis and Pence were tied with 22 percent, with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz coming in a close third, with 19 percent.
“If President Trump chose not to run, it’s clear his supporters are already gravitating towards VP Mike Pence, FL. Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Ted Cruz,” Fabrizio said.
Ron DeSantis gained popularity with conservatives when he refused to implement draconian lockdowns and mask mandates during the COVID-19 panic.
This poll shows that he’s seen as a more worthy successor to President Trump than Mike Pence.
Trump’s base hopes DeSantis will stand up to the Left, but is less enamored with the former Vice President.
However, it’s important to remember that a lot can happen in the three years between now and the Republican primary.
But Ron DeSantis is clearly one of the party’s most popular members.
