President Joe Biden has taken Obama’s phone and pen authoritarianism to new levels.
But he knows Americans are growing sick of it.
That’s why he’s irate about a GOP alternative plan for one of his top priorities.
President Joe Biden is desperate to deliver on one of his top campaign promises before the 2022 Midterm elections.
Despite Democrat control in the US Senate and House of Representatives, President Joe Biden hasn’t been able to fully deliver on his 2020 campaign promise to forgive the student loans for his wealthy leftist base.
That’s why President Biden has been using executive action to offer student loan forgiveness for select Democrat constituencies without new legislation.
However, the President and his Democrat cohorts ultimate goal is to forgive student loans for the larger Democrat base.
Some in the GOP are trying to head off the attempt with an alternative idea.
Instead of forgiving the loan, limit the interest.
Republican Representatives Elise Stefanik of New York, Jim Banks of Indiana and Virginia Foxx of North Carolina introduced a bill they say will relieve student debt pressure for everyone – not just lefist leaning constituencies.
And they promise to do it without using taxpayer dollars to fund a massive debt forgiveness program.
Recently, the Federalist put out a piece speculating that Biden’s student loan forgiveness program could lead to a full federal higher education entitlement.
The GOP’s Responsible Education Assistance Act would limit the amount of interest borrowers could accumulate on federal student loans.
With lower rolling interest, borrowers will more effectively be able to pay back their loans following graduation.
“Under the Biden administration’s blanket student loan forgiveness agenda, taxpayers bear the burden of paying back other people’s loans,” Rep. Foxx said. “This is grossly unfair to the two-thirds of Americans who never went to college or those who already paid back their loans.”
During the Biden Presidency student loan payments have been postponed and delayed.
“Not a single person in this country has paid a dime on student – federal student loans since the president took office,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said back in May. “And what we have said is that he (President Biden) would make a decision about any cancellation of student debt before the conclusion of that pause on student loans.”
Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has a different take from President Biden on clearing the books of student loans.
“The student debt that is out there, almost 60% of it is graduate school debt,” Gov. DeSantis pointed out in a May press conference. “These are people like doctors and lawyers. People who are getting Masters and PHDs. My view is, why would you make a truck driver, or a waitress, or a construction worker pay off the debt for somebody who did a PHD program in gender studies. That’s wrong!”
A debt cannot go unpaid – either the borrower or lender pays off the loan.
And because student loans are federalized, that means all Americans are the lender and on the hook.
By wiping out college loan debt for students who went to college and agreed to pay back their loans, the Biden administration and the Democrat Party are forcing every other working American to cover the cost of loans they had nothing to do with and are not benefitting from.
Meanwhile, according to EducationData.org about 35-million Americans have worked hard and made sacrifices to fully pay off their student loans.
And you can bet Biden’s new army of IRS goons will be looking really hard at those folks to make sure they cough up every last penny possible to foot the bill for Biden’s student loan giveaway.
Canceling the balance for those who have decided to prioritize other things ahead of paying off their debts, is a direct and harsh slap in the face to those who did the right thing and lived up to their commitments.
