Facebook is eroding America’s culture of free speech.
Opinions are being censored by a handful of ideologues in Silicon Valley.
But one Governor is going after Facebook for the dangerous thing they are doing.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is winning over conservatives for his willingness to stand up to the establishment Left, an establishment that includes the powerful entity of Big Tech.
In light of a report that Facebook had a “whitelist” of high-profile users who were allowed to flout the platform’s content rules, DeSantis commissioned his Secretary of State to launch an investigation into Facebook’s practices in Florida.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has directed the Florida Secretary of State, Laurel M. Lee, to investigate Facebook for election interference, calling Facebook’s alleged actions “an affront to the basic principles of our republic.”
This follows a report that Facebook exempted certain “elite” users from its terms of service, including high-profile politicians and incumbent government officials.
It’s very clear that Facebook and other Big Tech platforms interfered in 2020.
Facebook spokesman Andy Stone said on Twitter that Facebook would be slowing the dissemination of the Hunter Biden laptop bombshell.
Twitter blocked the link from being shared even via private direct messages.
The Democrat Media Complex lied and said the story was “Russian disinformation,” but admitted after the election it was likely true.
Nearly a year later, Politico said it confirmed at least some of Hunter Biden’s emails regarding potential malfeasance.
DeSantis said in a statement:
It’s no secret that Big Tech censors have long enforced their own rules inconsistently…If this new report is true, Facebook has violated Florida law to put its thumb on the scale of numerous state and local races. That is why I am directing Secretary Lee to use all legal means to uncover violations of Florida’s election laws. The thought of Facebook clandestinely manipulating elections is an affront to the basic principles of our republic. We the people have the right to choose our representatives, whether or not Silicon Valley approves.
Facebook has been putting its thumb on the scale with regard to acceptable discourse.
Stories about COVID and the vaccine were being censored even if they were true because they may have contributed to vaccine hesitancy.
That’s proof that compliance with the establishment narrative is more important than the actual truth.
DeSantis needs to stay on Big Tech and other Republican Governors should consider following suit.
