Leftists are losing arguments on a number of contentious issues.
That’s why they’re so quick to silence opposition.
And one Big Tech information source just ramped up censorship of conservatives.
Wikipedia, like so many institutions, has drifted toward the Left.
The online encyclopedia has a clear bias, and it’s only getting worse due to restrictions on sourcing from right-leaning outlets.
“After Trump won the 2016 Presidential election, Wikipedia editors began gradually purging conservative media from the site through a process called ‘deprecation’ with the first outlet being the Daily Mail . . . In January 2020, these exemptions were effectively eliminated when Chapman changed Wikipedia’s policy page on ‘reliable sources’ to add a section on deprecation.”
That means claims from conservative sites cannot be used as links.
For example, a leftist Wikipedia administrator put Breitbart on the “spam” list.
But the same distinction does not exist for sites that are openly socialist.
Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger, who left the company years ago, has been a harsh critic of the site’s obvious liberal bias.
He pointed out that Barack Obama’s page leaves out many scandals that occurred within his administration, e.g. the Associated Press phone records scandal, the Lois Lerner IRS scandal, and Operation Fast and Furious to name a few.
Broad topics like abortion are also slanted toward the Left.
Sanger wrote in a blog post:
“Wikipedia can be counted on to cover not just political figures, but political issues as well from a liberal-left point of view. No conservative would write, in an abortion article, ‘When properly done, abortion is one of the safest procedures in medicine,’ a claim that is questionable on its face, considering what an invasive, psychologically distressing, and sometimes lengthy procedure it can be even when done according to modern medical practices.”
As more information and interaction becomes digital, it’s important for the online gatekeepers to be honest brokers, but they are not.
Wikipedia routinely smears conservatives as “far right” and uses other libelous tactics to poison the well for curious users.
The false characterizations are then reinforced by biased sourcing to left-wing sites.
It’s a problem that’s only getting worse.
Wikipedia, like so many other major tech platforms, has undermined its credibility in favor of solidarity with the Left.
For leftists, their ideology comes first, and it shades everything they do.
They cannot be trusted to be honest brokers.
