Donald Trump was undermined from the get-go by the D.C. Swamp.
That includes establishment Republicans that wanted nothing to do with him.
And Mitch McConnell stabbed Trump in the back with one disgusting maneuver.
Establishment Republicans did everything they could to stop Donald Trump, but they ultimately fell in line because the Republican voters were behind him.
But that didn’t mean they weren’t working to undermine his agenda.
For example, the Presidential Personnel Office was in the hands of RINOs at the beginning of Trump’s presidency, so his administration was being staffed with people who were not on board the America First agenda.
Trump also had a pesky establishment adversary in Senate leader Mitch McConnell, who has had a rocky relationship with Trump for years.
And according to audio recordings obtained by The New York Times, McConnell actively favored impeachment in order to get rid of Trump for good.
Five days after the Capitol Hill riot, The New York Times reported that “McConnell met over lunch in Kentucky with two longtime advisers, Terry Carmack and Scott Jennings. Feasting on Chick-fil-A in Mr. Jennings’s Louisville office, the Senate Republican leader predicted Mr. Trump’s imminent political demise. ‘The Democrats are going to take care of the son of a bitch for us,’ Mr. McConnell said, referring to the imminent impeachment vote in the House.”
McConnell’s attitude typifies the establishment mind set – they were always looking for a convenient time to get rid of Trump.
McConnell wasn’t alone in his eagerness to cast out Trump.
Congressman Kevin McCarthy also was counting on the Democrats to rid the establishment of Trump.
The Times added that “Mr. McCarthy went so far as to say he would push Mr. Trump to resign immediately: ‘I’ve had it with this guy,’ he told a group of Republican leaders, according to an audio recording of the conversation obtained by The New York Times. But within weeks both men backed off an all-out fight with Mr. Trump because they feared retribution from him and his political movement.”
McConnell told a friend, “I didn’t get to be leader by voting with five people in the conference.”
So it wasn’t just the Democrats who were using January 6th to attack Trump, it was the establishment Republicans, too.
Sadly, they helped lead to one of the largest clampdowns on free speech, after Democrats and their Big Tech pals used January 6 as the basis for banning online speech.
