Big Tech has been put under the microscope after the shenanigans of the past five years.
Establishment figures in various sectors marshaled their resources to thwart Donald Trump and any counter-narrative voices.
And a Joe Biden official was caught red-handed in a leaked video, making Big Tech one offer that will leave you speechless.
Many people on the Right, as well as a handful of anti-establishment liberals, have been skeptical of Big Tech companies like Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Twitter.
They have seen these megacorporations, many of which have been created or propped up by U.S. taxpayer dollars in various ways, use their power to propagate certain messages and suppress others.
But the full extent of the collusion between these entities and the federal government truly came to light after Elon Musk took over Twitter and released the Twitter Files.
The levels of backroom dealing between Joe Biden’s White House and Twitter executives were staggering.
Now that the cat is out of the bag, the collusion is taking place out in the open.
Government-Big Tech interference in American and global politics has become flat-out brazen
Brett Freedman, Department of Justice Chief of Staff and Senior Counsel at the National Security Division, attended an event hosted by Google in Washington, D.C.
At the event, Freedman said, “We can’t be successful — whether it’s Google, whether it’s DOJ, whether it’s Aspen — without personal relationships. Without interpersonal relationships. Without public-private partnerships.”
So Freedman wants a “personal” relationship with Google in order to “facilitate” certain interventions in the name of “safety.”
In other words, the Biden administration wants to be able to pick up the phone and get an executive at Google to do its bidding.
Propagandizing American citizens on American soil was legalized under the Obama-era Smith-Mundt Modernization Act
The ban on domestic dissemination of U.S. government propaganda, spurred raised eyebrows from even the legal journal at Illinois’ Pritzker School of Law, named for the family of the far-Left Illinois Governor, J.B. Pritzker.
Despite soft-pedaling it as “Apple Pie Propaganda?” in its headline for a 2015 article, the Pritzker School of Law’s Northwestern University Law Review stated:
For over sixty years, the Smith–Mundt Act prohibited the U.S. Department of State and the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) from disseminating government-produced programming within the United States over fears that these agencies would “propagandize” the American people. However, in 2013, Congress abolished the domestic dissemination ban, which has led to a heated debate about the role of the federal government in free public discourse.
Apologists have argued that the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act only applied in a very limited way, saying it just allowed government-controlled outlets like Radio Free Europe and Voice of America to put their broadcasts online.
But Federal government involvement in otherwise free public discourse turns it into anything but, especially domestically in the United States.
And that’s precisely what happened at Twitter and other Big Tech and social media companies, in the wake of the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act.
For instance, independent journalist Alex Berenson, who has been all over COVID disinformation, wrote in a Substack article of actions Twitter took against him prior to Musk taking control.
Berenson stated:
“Biden Administration officials asked Twitter to ban me because of my tweets questioning the Covid vaccines, even as company employees believed I had followed Twitter’s rules, internal Twitter communications reveal. In a White House meeting in April 2021, four months before Twitter suspended my account, the company faced “one really tough question about why Alex Berenson hasn’t been kicked off from the platform,” a Twitter employee wrote.
Establishment politicians threatened Big Tech companies with censorship, if they did not enforce their censorship goals.
They tried the stick, and now they want to try the carrot.
Google is arguably the most powerful company in human history, so its ability to tip the scales of public discourse cannot be taken lightly.
