Big Tech is the communications arm of the Democrat Party.
This cozy relationship is starting to show cracks.
Now, Elizabeth Warren is turning on her Big Tech allies for this shocking reason.
Big Tech has been joined at the hip with the Democrat Party giving the left digital dominance.
Democrats have always been able to count on getting a leg up from Big Tech’s ruthless censorship of conservatives.
With Roe v. Wade overturned and abortion now going back to the states to regulate, this cozy relationship may be about to fracture.
18 states have laws on the books making abortion illegal with Roe overturned.
Democrats are panicking that data from Big Tech companies could be used to prosecute women seeking abortions in these states.
Elizabeth Warren, along with Democrat Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) urging them to investigate Apple and Google for failing to warn their users about location tracking data in their mobile operating systems.
The mobile tracking data collected off of cellphones is bundled for third party advertisers who use it to target people for customized advertisements.
Cellphone users have an anonymous — except almost certainly to the government — advertising ID that creates a profile for companies to create customized advertisements based off of the user’s data.
“These identifiers have fueled the unregulated data broker market by creating a single piece of information linked to a device that data brokers and their customers can use to link to other data about consumers,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter. “This data is bought or acquired from app developers and online advertisers, and can include consumers’ movements and web browsing activity.”
While anyone can opt out of advertising tracking, the Democrats warned that Apple and Google have, “enabled governments and private actors to exploit advertising tracking systems for their own surveillance and exposed hundreds of millions of Americans to serious privacy harms.”
Warren is worried this data could be used to prosecute women seeking an abortion in states where it’s illegal.
It’s a stunning admission of two things Deep State elites and abortion appologists have denied for years.
First, that tech companies built backdoors into their products that give governments access to anonymized location data.
And second that abortion is about profits and not about “health care” as Democrats have long maintained.
“Data brokers are already selling, licensing, and sharing the location information of people that visit abortion providers to anyone with a credit card,” the lawmakers state. “Prosecutors in states where abortion becomes illegal will soon be able to obtain warrants for location information about anyone who has visited an abortion provider. Private actors will also be incentivized by state bounty laws to hunt down women who have obtained or are seeking an abortion by accessing location information through shady data brokers.”
Ironically, this data Warren is now so worried about is the same type of phone data Democrats poo pooed as not geographically specific when it was used in the movie 2000 Mules by investigators to identify ballot harvesters in the movie.
Democrats were quick to dismiss cell phone data proving anything in the movie but now are panicking it could be used to identify women seeking abortions.
When a left-wing sacred cow like abortion could be affected, Democrats are quick to change their tune.
The battle over abortion could prove to be a source of conflict between Democrats and Big Tech.
