FCC Commissioner nominee Gigi Sohn is finally toast.
Sohn’s nomination was put on ice, but her chances were revived when Democrats maintained control of the Senate.
However, Sohn’s radical past made her too toxic for a Democratic Party that’s trying to appease the fringe sect of the party while simultaneously moving away from them.
Sohn responded, “It is a sad day for our country and our democracy when dominant industries, with assistance from unlimited dark money, get to choose their regulators…And with the help of their friends in the Senate, the powerful cable and media companies have done just that.”
Sohn is a wild partisan who has expressed pro-censorship views directed at conservatives.
Cruz declares victory on Sohn’s nomination
Senator Ted Cruz responded, “The withdrawal of Ms. Sohn’s nomination is a major victory and represents a strong bipartisan agreement that we need a fair and impartial candidate who can receive the support needed for confirmation. The FCC is not a place for partisan activists; free speech is too important. Now, it’s time for the Biden administration to put forth a nominee who can be confirmed by the full Senate and is committed to serving as an even-handed and truly independent regulator.”
Sohn was ultimately done in by moderate Democrats.
Her past anti-police rhetoric made her untenable for some Democrats in purple states.
Jacky Rosen of Nevada said, “I’d like to echo concerns raised about the nominee’s positions on matters of importance for law enforcement, both nationally and in Nevada.”
Sohn was once a featured attendee at a far-left event sponsored by Movement Labs (formerly known as Resistance Labs).
In promotion for the event, Movement Labs wrote, “Who is this pinnacle of trust-busting that has earned the ire of evil? Gigi Sohn, founder of Public Knowledge and nominee to the FCC, where she would fill out a 3-2 progressive majority capable of breaking up Sinclair’s right-wing propaganda machine.”
The Left wanted to get a radical like Sohn through the door so she could crack down on conservative media.
Leftists know that in order for their ideas to flourish, they need to censor opposing viewpoints as much as possible.
Sohn’s scuttled nomination could be a sign that the backlash to the radical Left is coming.
