An investigation of Facebook’s internal messaging system just uncovered major admissions about censorship

Social media giants have been granted a considerable amount of power to shape the national discourse.

Facebook and other Big Tech sites have a lot of explaining to do.

Because an investigation of Facebook’s internal messaging system just uncovered major admissions about censorship.

Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, who’s actually more a Democrat operative than anything else, has been calling on Facebook to censor more content.

She wants the government to clamp down even more on Conservatives.

And internal documents within the company show that she wasn’t alone in her authoritarian impulses.

It turns out that Breitbart was targeted by leftists within Facebook.

From The Wall Street Journal:

In June 2020, when America was rocked by protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer, a Facebook employee posted a message on the company’s racial-justice chat board: “Get Breitbart out of News Tab.”

News Tab is a feature that aggregates and promotes articles from various publishers, chosen by Facebook. The employee’s message included screenshots of headlines on Breitbart’s website, such as “Minneapolis Mayhem: Riots in Masks,” “Massive Looting, Buildings in Flames, Bonfires!” and “BLM Protesters Pummel Police Cars on 101.”

Apparently the Conservative news outlet’s great crime was reporting on stories that the corporate-controlled press wouldn’t.

CNN and MSNBC were telling people that the riots of 2020—that cost over $2 billion in property damage and resulted in dozens of murders—were “mostly peaceful.”

Making the “mostly peaceful” incantation even more absurd were reporters standing in front of fiery buildings while reciting it.

The WSJ continued:

The employee said they were “emblematic of a concerted effort at Breitbart and similarly hyperpartisan sources (none of which belong in News Tab) to paint Black Americans and Black-led movements in a very negative way,” according to written conversations on Facebook’s office communication system reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. Many other employees chimed in to agree…

Facebook chose to keep Breitbart on News Tab. A spokeswoman for the tech giant said the company makes a judgment based on the specific content published on Facebook, not the entire Breitbart site, and that the Facebook material met its requirements, including the need to abide by its rules against misinformation and hate speech.

In other words, Breitbart didn’t break any rules so Facebook begrudgingly allowed the site to remain.

The fact that there were serious discussions about censoring Breitbart for reporting true information is quite scary.

Authoritarian leftists like the ones who dominate powerful positions inside of Facebook and other Big Tech companies want to silence voices that undermine the Left’s narrative.

This latest revelation just goes to show how tenuous the situation is for Breitbart and other right-of-center outlets.
