California Democrat Representatives Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell are among the most controversial figures in all of Washington D.C. – and that’s really saying something.
Party leadership wanted to protect their positions.
But the most unlikely of sources just put Schiff and Swalwell back in their place.
One of the privileges of having a majority in Congress is a certain amount of power when it comes to committee assignments.
Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was never afraid of wielding that power when she held the Speaker’s gavel.
She kicked several Republicans – including Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Congressman Paul Gosar of Arizona – off House committees.
The GOP has their committee assignments mostly set for the new Congress.
And while Democrats figured out how to divy their party assignments, new Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) warned them not to put up a few names – to specific committees.
Jeffries’ hill to die on
The Hill reported McCarthy told the new Democrat Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York that he would block the appointments of – Representatives Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Unlike many other committees, House rules allow the Speaker to hand-pick every member of the Select Committee on Intelligence.
However, traditionally, the Speaker works with the Minority Leader of the other party in selecting the minority’s members on the committee.
McCarthy was going to play by that tradition, until Jeffries insisted on Schiff and Swalwell.
Jeffries went ahead and made the appointments official despite the Speaker’s warning.
Swalwell accused of sleeping with the enemy and Schiff of leaking
Swalwell is a particularly troubling Intelligence Committee pick by Democrats.
In 2020, it was unearthed that Chinese spy, Christine Fang, built connections with several California politicians, including Rep. Swalwell.
In fact, it’s been reported by multiple sources that Swalwell carried on sexual relationship with the Chinese spy.
Meanwhile, during Democrats’ investigations trying to prove collusion between then-President Donald Trump and Russia Schiff showed he was reportedly willing to lie, leak confidential information and even make up fictional testimony against the President.
But Jeffries evidently believed their appointments to the very sensitive Intelligence Committee would pay political dividends.
McCarthy steps up to the plate
To the surprise of many – even in his own party – Speaker McCarthy is actually backing up his warning to Hakeem Jeffries – with both strong words and actions.
“I have rejected the appointments of Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell for the House Intelligence Committee,” McCarthy tweeted after taking action on his warning. I am committed to returning the House Intel Committee to one of genuine honesty and credibility that regains the trust of the American people.”

Schiff took to Twitter, calling his ouster “petty, political payback.”
Kevin McCarthy just kicked me and @RepSwalwell off the Intelligence Committee.
This is petty, political payback for investigating Donald Trump.
If he thinks this will stop me, he will soon find out just how wrong he is.
I will always defend our democracy.

Meanwhile, Swalwell decided to make threats, saying McCarthy will “regret” booting him off Intel and adding, “I’m not going to be quiet.”
Of course, the corporate-controlled media was quick to take sides with Schiff and Swalwell.
They mustered all their imagination to try and make the story somehow about controversial GOP Rep. George Santos (R-NY).
But when asked about it, McCarthy quickly taught PBS’ Lisa Desjardins a lesson on journalism, justified his decision and dismissed the nonsense connection to Santos.
Holy shit. Kevin McCarthy just absolutely destroyed a reporter who questioned his decision to remove Schiff and Swalwell from the intel committee.
Total annihilation.

The nearly three-and-a-half-minute video features Kevin McCarthy fighting back against the Left in a way conservatives haven’t really seen from him in his entire political career.
