Many are questioning the facts behind the origin of the coronavirus.
Everything from wet market theories to conspiracies that it was an intentional release by Communist China have been thrown around.
Now a top official at WHO is saying this about patient zero.
Dr. Peter Embarek is a top official at the World Health Organization (WHO), and he is revealing a new theory about how the world’s first COVID-19 patient contracted the virus.
According to Embarek, the patient may have been infected by a bat while working in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
“An employee who was infected in the field by taking samples falls under one of the probable hypotheses,” Embarek told a Danish television station.
Dr. Embarek says this is where the virus “jumps directly from a bat to a human.”
In this theory of Embarek’s, “it would then be a laboratory worker instead of a random villager” that contracts the first case of COVID.
Embarek led the WHO probe into the origins of the COVID pandemic and continues to speak out about his thoughts on how the virus started to spread.
In March, a joint World Health Organization study on the origins of COVID-19 said that transmission of the virus from bats to humans through another animal was the most likely scenario.
At the time, it was stated that a lab leak was “extremely unlikely.”
But just last month, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated it was premature to rule out a potential link between the pandemic and a laboratory leak.
Ghebreyesus asked China to be more transparent.
China has, of course, struck back viciously, arguing that the lab leak theory is “politically motivated.”
Dr. Embarek said when the WHO team visited the Wuhan lab, investigators were not allowed to look at any laboratory books or documents.
He also stated that it was interesting that the lab moved in December of 2019, just a few hundred yards from the wet market where the first cluster of cases was discovered.
“This is the period when it all started, and you know what: when you move a laboratory, it is disruptive to everything,” Embarek said.
“You also have to move the virus collection, sample collection and other collections from one place to another,” he continued.
China continues to deny any wrongdoing and says any such theory of a lab leak is a lie and propagated by Donald Trump.
But as more people come forward, more information is pointing towards just such a theory.
