The Constitution is a roadblock in the way of Democrat power grabs.
One Democrat made a major miscalculation.
Now, a top Kamala Harris ally’s attack on Americans’ Constitutional rights just backfired in a major way.
The gun grabbers on the Left were seething with rage after the Supreme Court handed them a historic defeat in NYSRPA v. Bruen.
The Bruen decision forced states to get rid of “may issue” concealed carry permits to “shall issue” permits.
“May issue” let government bureaucrats decide if someone could be issued a concealed carry permit putting them out of reach for most citizens.
This was an unconstitutional violation of Americans’ Second Amendment rights according to a decision authored by Justice Clarence Thomas.
Deep blue states like California were enraged their restrictive concealed carry system was being replaced.
And California’s far-Left Attorney General Rob Bonta let that rage lead to him “accidentally” putting gun owners in the state in danger with a bone-chilling move.
The Golden State has collected data on gun owners for “university research” in a database called the Firearms Dashboard Portal.
That database with a treasure trove of information on gun owners was “accidentally” leaked on a California Justice Department website.
The leaked information on gun owners includes a person’s name, race, driver’s license numbers, home address, date of birth and if they have a concealed carry permit.
This leak turned out to be worse than anyone thought after it was revealed that even more information than initially revealed was leaked.
“The state’s Assault Weapon Registry, Handguns Certified for Sale, Dealer Record of Sale, Firearm Certificate Safety and Gun Violence Restraining Order dashboards were also affected,” the department said.
This meant that anyone in California who bought a gun or even ammo from a store would be at risk.
This massive violation of gun owner’s privacy puts them at risk from criminals, especially women who got a gun for self defense who had their addresses exposed to stalkers or abusive ex-partners.
While Rob Bonta claimed this was an accident, the data was neatly organized and available for download with the click of a button before it was removed.
After a stunning display of incompetence or malice by the California Attorney General —presumably with the assistance of his partisan lakeys in state government — one group is putting the Attorney General’s office on notice with a lawsuit over the failure.
The National Foundation for Gun Rights (NFGR) filed a class action lawsuit against Rob Bonta for this major violation of California’s Constitutional rights.
In the lawsuit, NFGR said California not only violated the privacy of gun owners but put all Californians in danger by exposing this information.
“This unlawful release of Californians’ sensitive private information to the public in violation of California and federal law provides criminals with a road map of who owns a firearm and where those firearms may be located, and information from which those same criminals can infer which homes are not likely defended by armed homeowners,” the lawsuit read.
Attorneys for NFGR will be able to use the legal discovery process to get the records related to the leak from the California Attorney General.
With the lawsuit, California gun owners can hold the lawless Left activists in the California Attorney General’s office accountable for this unconstitutional attack.
