The biggest teachers union in America thought they could hide their radical agenda forever.
But Republicans just exposed what they’ve been doing behind closed doors.
And Congressional Republicans discovered one terrible secret that has the teachers union scrambling to save itself.
Republicans target the NEA’s federal charter with new legislation
Congressional Republicans are taking aim at the nation’s largest teachers union with legislation that could strip away its special federal status.
Rep. Mark Harris of North Carolina and Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee are introducing the National Education Association Charter Repeal Act in their respective chambers on Wednesday.¹
The bill would revoke the federal charter that the NEA has held since Congress granted it back in 1906.
That’s right – for over a century, the NEA has enjoyed a special seal of approval from the federal government.
But Harris said the union has completely abandoned its original mission "to support America’s teachers and strengthened our schools" in favor of pushing a "radical agenda."¹
"From branding President Trump a fascist to embracing divisive gender ideology and walking away from efforts to fight antisemitism, the NEA has become nothing more than a partisan advocacy group," Harris stated.¹
The NEA represents over 3 million educators nationwide, making it the largest labor union in the United States.
But Republicans argue that the union’s recent actions prove it doesn’t deserve the legitimacy that comes with a federal charter.
"Since the NEA is clearly not prioritizing students, parents or even teachers, it’s time to remove Congress’ seal of approval from this rogue organization," Harris continued.¹
NEA’s partisan political spending exposes their true priorities
The numbers don’t lie when it comes to the NEA’s political agenda.
An Open Secrets report found that a staggering 98 percent of NEA political donations went to Democrat candidates during the 2024 election cycle.¹
That means out of every dollar the union spent on politics, 98 cents went to Democrats and only 2 cents went to Republicans.
Talk about putting partisan politics over students and teachers.
But their biased spending habits are just the tip of the iceberg.
The NEA recently passed a resolution that "pledges to defend democracy against Trump’s embrace of fascism by using the term facism [sic] in NEA materials to correctly characterize Donald Trump’s program and actions."¹
Yes, they actually misspelled "fascism" in their own resolution attacking the President.
These are the same people who claim to be educating America’s children.
Conservative education expert Corey DeAngelis obtained documents showing the union adopted this business item specifically to attack President Trump in their official materials.¹
This isn’t about education – it’s about pushing left-wing propaganda in America’s classrooms.
Moms and parents are fed up with woke union politics
Parents across the country have had enough of the NEA’s radical agenda.
Tina Descovich, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, praised the Republican effort to strip the union’s federal charter.
"It’s incredibly sad that the nation’s largest teachers’ union has put woke politics before America’s children," Descovich said.¹
She pointed to the NEA’s "embrace of radical left policies and antisemitism, combined with their rejection of parental rights" as reasons why parents are condemning the organization.¹
Sen. Blackburn echoed those concerns in her statement supporting the legislation.
"Time and again, teachers’ unions have shown they’ll put their political agenda ahead of students’ needs," Blackburn stated.¹
"The National Education Association has made it crystal clear it’s a partisan organization, and it shouldn’t be rewarded with a federal charter that platforms woke gender ideology, antisemitism, and left-wing propaganda. Our students deserve better," she added.¹
The NEA’s federal charter gives the organization special status as a nonprofit under federal statute with a purpose acknowledged by the government.
While the union’s operations rely primarily on member dues rather than federal funding, losing their congressional charter would sever their official ties to the government and eliminate certain property tax exemptions.¹
Previous efforts to revoke NEA’s charter have stalled
This isn’t the first time Republicans have tried to strip the NEA’s federal charter.
Blackburn tried this same thing back in 2022, but it went nowhere – just died in committee like all the other attempts.¹
But here’s what’s different now.
The NEA just can’t help themselves anymore.
They’re out there calling Trump a fascist in their official materials and parents have had it up to here with their garbage.
Think about it – you’ve got a union that’s supposed to help teachers, but instead they’re spending their time writing anti-Trump hit pieces.
What parent wants their kid’s teacher getting marching orders from an organization that thinks the President is Hitler?
The NEA used to at least pretend they cared about education.
Not anymore.
Now they’re full-blown Democrat operatives who happen to work in schools.
They ditched fighting antisemitism because it didn’t fit their woke agenda.
They’d rather push gender ideology on kindergarteners than teach them how to read.
And don’t even get them started on parental rights – they think parents are the enemy.
So now Republicans are basically saying, "You want to play politics? Fine. But don’t expect us to give you special government perks while you do it."
It’s about time someone called them out.
The NEA made their bed, now they can lie in it.
